Kristy Blom
I am a compassionate, client-centered counsellor dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where individuals feel heard, understood, and empowered. I believe each person brings unique strengths and experiences to the therapeutic process, and I tailor my approach to meet each client’s individual needs, goals, and circumstances. My aim is to help clients foster meaningful growth, build resilience, and create lasting change.
As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with extensive experience in addictions and complex mental health, I have worked with children, youth, adults, families, and first responders facing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, stress, ADHD, substance use, trauma, burnout, relationship concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, and major life transitions. My nursing background has provided me with a deep understanding of the impact of chronic stress, trauma, and high-pressure environments. This experience allows me to effectively support first responders and helping professionals in processing critical incidents, managing burnout, and restoring balance, well-being, and resilience.
My therapeutic approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), mindfulness-based approaches, polyvagal-informed interventions, and play-based techniques when working with children and youth. I work alongside clients at a pace that feels comfortable and sustainable, helping them develop practical coping skills, increase self-awareness, strengthen emotional regulation, and build confidence in navigating life’s challenges. I am also a Certified ADHD Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) with specialized training in supporting children, adolescents, and adults with ADHD. ADHD is an area of particular professional interest, and I enjoy helping clients better understand their unique strengths while developing practical strategies to address executive functioning challenges, emotional regulation, organization, time management, and self-esteem. My goal is to support clients in building systems and skills that align with their individual needs rather than working against them.
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing from Douglas College. My combined background in nursing and counselling allows me to bring both clinical expertise and a holistic perspective to my work, supporting clients in understanding the connection between their emotional, psychological, and physiological experiences.
I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change. Whether you are navigating a difficult life transition, managing the effects of stress or trauma, supporting a child or teen, or seeking a greater sense of balance and well-being, I am committed to providing a supportive environment where you can feel understood, develop new skills, and move toward a more fulfilling and authentic life.
